Given that it essentially runs a fork of Vyatta, I would trust that over RouterOS for BGP any day. I have been looking at the CCR1009 and CCR1036 for the colo but on the other hand, pfsense is pretty great too.Why are you comparing an Edge Router Lite (which is entry level) to a MikroTik Switch?įrom my experience, I use an ERL at home on a 100mbps connection and it has yet to fail me, well over a year of service. That experience has turned me off to the EdgeRouter line. I have been looking at the CCR1009 and CCR1036 for the colo but on the other hand, pfsense is pretty great too.You do realize that the EdgeRouter Lite is the entry level product for the EdgeMax line? If you want to do BGP with any kind of table count you should be looking at the EdgeRouter or EdgeRouter Pro, not the Lite.Īlso, did you upgrade your EdgeRouter Lite's software to the latest edition? Management wise, the CLI on the ERL is nice. The Mikrotik switches have not hiccuped once. pfsense 2.2-ALPHA in a Hyper-V VM at home only has come down once due to my adding additional memory/ drives to the system. I still have them, but they are now not heading for the colo. Performance wise, the ERL was fine but the pipe into the house is only about 50mbps. Given "home" includes over 200 IP addressable physical and virtual machines, chromecasts, IP cameras and etc and all switching is basically L2. The goal was to replace the pfsense boxes in the colo with the EdgeRouter Lites. I bought 2x EdgeRouter Lites a few months ago and have 2x CRS226's (only Mikrotik products).
